About
I am a student of late medieval intellectual history of the Islamic world. This period can be said to begin with Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna, d. 1037) and could, somewhat arbitrarily, be said to end when the Ottoman and Safavid Empire are firmly established (17th century). One of my specializations is the history of intellectual activities in the early Ottoman Empire (14th and 15th century). I am currently working on the Safavid side of the story, by studying the commentary tradition on Suhrawardī's 'Philosophy of illumination' (Ḥikmat al-ishrāq).
I studied Mathematics, Philosophy, and Arabic Language & Culture at Utrecht University and completed an MA in Islamic Studies at McGill University, Montreal. I am currently enrolled in a PhD program.
