About
Handling uncertainty in spatial processes
NOTE: I am currently looking for a new position
I am a thoughtful and alert researcher with a current focus on hydrological and climate issues, and with a fascination and proven aptness in modelling, (geo-)statistical analysis, coping with uncertainty, and handling of large datasets.
Now I work on a project funded by RIVM. This is a second follow-up project of the PhD research of Paul Hiemstra, carried out with Derek Karssenberg. Aim is to implement StochasticPuff (http://pcraster.geo.uu.nl/projects/applications/stochasticpuff/) and make recent developments in NPK-PUFF available to modelers at RIVM.
My PhD-project, which is not yet finished, is about improving a regional climate model by adding lateral groundwater flow into the water balance of the land surface.
Climate models notoriously have a land surface memory that is less than a year: during one wet season all information on previous droughts is lost, and one drought can erase all information of previous wet spells. Adding groundwater flow, a process with very long memory, may augment the climate model in this respect.
